A day Belgium will not forget for years to come. A day in which 28 people lost their lives in a tragic accident as their bus hit a tunnel wall in Switzerland on their way home from a ski-trip. A day in which 22 children, aged 11-12 years old, are lost forever. A day in which 6 adults' lives are suddenly cut short. A day which leaves a little country devastated, united in grief and loss.

Today we had a day of mourning and at 11am everywhere people fell silent and held the deceased, the wounded and their families in their thoughts. Cars, busses, bikes... had attached either a black ribbon or a white one to sideview mirrors, antenna's or wherever it was possible to attach it to show their compassion and sympathy.

I attached a white ribbon to my car. I didn't think my bosses would go along with the moment of silence at 11am but they did ask for it, and it was quite eerie to hear a busy office suddenly fall silent. My sister works at the airport and she was right on top of it as she had to let the 28 cars that would carry the coffins from the airport to their hometowns pass. And then at 11am she saw an entire airport fall silent while people stood in front of the windows facing the airport's mortuary.

I watched the late night news, and saw what she was talking about... that many cars carrying small white coffins, and 6 chestnut coffins... that's... it's not something you see every day.

These kids and their chaperones were from two different schools, one in Heverlee (Leuven) and one in Lommel (which is like the next town where I live - I go to the cinema in Lommel and used to go to evening school there). Lommel was hit the hardest with 17 dead.

Currently there are 3 children still in a critical condition in Swiss hospitals and from the looks of it, their prognosis isn't good.

I created a music-vid for a challenge but due to some unforeseen circumstances didn't make the deadline, which then gave me the opportunity to tweak it some more (for the better really). But anyway, true to my Stargate Atlantis nature I chose my favorite character, Kate Heightmeyer, to star in my tribute vid of sorts.

Anyway, see for yourself... clips from all 5 episodes she was in to Heart of Courage by Two Steps From Hell.

View it here if you can or on YouTube:

I can't seem to get on ... is something going down at LJ again? Something unforeseen?

I was going to make a lengthy post about my WIP's, and was going to post excerps but well LJ being down kinda complicates that.

Then DW it is, I guess...

So, Leverage - I'm totally into it. It's eating my brain so I just went ahead and bought season 1 and 2 on DVD. Unfortunately for me, when looking for region 2 of season 3 I stumbled across the release dates of the earlier seasons - both season 1 and 2 region 2 were released more than a year after region 1 - WHAT THE FRAK?!? - so I'm guessing I'll be buying season 3 somewhere summer 2012 (and season 4 possibly in 2013). =(

I love all the characters, but yeah Parker's definitely my favorite. Beth Riesgraf's got me hook, line and sinker baby!

Anyway...

So I dive into the extra's which are kind of cool. Lots of technical aspects are being revealed which I totally love. Especially since I'm doing an eveningclass 3D-artist and we have this one course about film (storyboard & script be the official name) which deals with techniques of filming, camera movements, shots, blocking, ... the whole lot so I'm absorbing this information like a sponge.

However, the audio commentaries are all done by the writers, the directors and the producers. They talk technical stuff almost 95% through the episodes and very little about stuff happening on the screen between the characters or the actors. And while on one side I'm learning a lot, on the other side of it I'm also disappointed. I don't want technical stuff all the time - that does get boring after a while you know.

Dehydration, muscle aching and low blood pressure are the punishment my body has bestowed upon me for walking 28km/18 miles. And my doctor gave me a speech on how walking that distance in the summer-like weather conditions from Saturday last is just not done.

O-kay... but at least I made it! ... At a price that is.

*ducks head*

So, I walked 29km/18 miles yesterday in a scorching hot sun. I died multiple times yet prevailed and reached my destiny, along with the 19 or so other colleagues that joined on this walking trip. It was organized by a couple of colleagues from the warehouse department.

We walked an average of 5km/h - 3 miles/h which is fast, I can assure you. Only a seasoned walker is capable of maintaining that pace which most of us were not. So, I was about ready to quit halfway but one of my colleagues gave me a good peptalk and off I went, with two genormous blisters underneath the soles of my feet.

I literally pushed myself further than I have ever gone. My morale was extremely low over lunch but it went back up, then down again, up again... until at 4 o'clock on the dot (churchbell rang 4) we reached our destination. We had left at 9:25 in the morning with approx. a total of a 1h break in a whole day. I did about 35,000 steps to get from point 1 (the company grounds) to point B (Scherpenheuvel - most famous pilgrim site in Belgium).

We had a BBQ in the evening to celebrate our victory and then spent several more hours enjoying ourselves greatly: laughing with each other's painful misery, laughing at jokes and funny stories but most of all getting to know each other in a different setting than work-related issues. I had a lot of fun and I'm glad I didn't give up. I would have regretted it, without a doubt.

So, I recently signed up being a penpal at[community profile] got_snail_mail and thus I thought it to be a good occasion to get my fountain pens out of retirement. Actually one of them has never been used before.

Both needed new ink, although for one of them it would be the first time in over 18 years (!) to be filled with ink. Also, no clue what sort of cartridges I needed for this particular pen.

My Waterman pen refused to write in its first 5 minutes but once it started, it continued like it had never stopped doing just that. I also realized I hold my pen at an almost 45° angle so that it writes with the side of its tip. I need to practice some more, easing back into the writing.

Now, for the other pen, an Elysee pen, gifted to me 18 years ago, I had no clue what sort of ink cartridges had to go in it. Luckily the woman at the office supplies store was able to inform me that Pelikan cartridges are just right. Lucky me.
So, back home I hope that my pen will work cause you know it has never been used before. So, I'm fumbling with it for a bit and for the first time get a really good look at what is written on the tip of my pen... O_O I have a pen with an 18ct. gold tip - I almost dropped it out of surprise, and when my mum came in later and she was trying to make it write I almost squealed not to abuse it so. IT'S AN 18ct. GOLD TIP!!

Who in his right mind wants a pen that has an 18ct. gold tip?!? You use it to write with, not put it on display. It's a pen. ... And it's heavy.

Elysée - for elegance -> you got that right! =P
