Be aware - swearing and rant ahead - cut for safety!

YES, THEY FRELLIN' WELL DO!!

Frellin' idiots!!

OMG!!11!!! OH NOEZ!!! *gasp* Cara is not a main character - she's a glorified extra. It's all about Richard and Kahlan, Kahlan and Richard, Richard and/or Kahlan, Kahlan and/or Richard. Now, remember that and forget about Zedd and Cara - Richard and Kahlan are the only ones you need to remember.

What?!? Cara/Kahlan - are you insane?!? OH NOEZ!!! Kahlan's with Richard. It's all about Richard and Kahlan, and their twu lurve. Get real, there's nothing between Cara and Kahlan... you silly fangirl! Go watch the show again and pay better attention.

Not all of them, mind you, but some are just so damn annoying... and they're seriously ruining it for me. I would go as far as to say -> Hey, your Richard and Kahlan ain't coming back! (neither is Cara but I can live with one season of total awesomeness) Your favorite show got cancelled. Mine got renewed! *sticks tongue out* Take that!

Even the enthusiasm to read the books to see how they compare to the show has vanished like snow in the sun.... Thank you folks! Spend 20£ on a book I don't want to read anymore. You folks managed to make me dislike the bloody Richard and Kahlan characters.

But considering Kahlan is one of my favorites, Richard has to take it all. =P

3/4 of the people at Legendoftheseeker.org can go to No Undies World (LotS version of hell - the dominion of the Keeper, the underworld) for all I care. Frakkers!

If you feel like being one of those 3/4 - be aware I behold the right to delete your comment and kick your virtual ass off my flist faster than you can type supercalefragelisticexpealidocious. You won't make it past super... ;) ...I've had it with the intolerant people in fandom (any fandom).

*hugs* This is why I stay in LJ fandom for that show. Gah, I hate people who make me hate characters that I wouldn't have hated otherwise.

My sympathy.

Too-dominant 'ships can be very troublesome. It's really tough when they don't love the other characters for their unique contributions to the story, too, even in the light of their dominant interpretation.

Cara is the reason season 2 was so awesome! I was loving how her relationships with everyone were unfolding. *sigh* I miss this show.

Dude WHAT? The. FRAK?!!! I always thoutght the show was about Richard, Kahlan, Cara and Zedd. And also about Darken Rahl, Sister Nicci, Denna, Mord'Sith, Shota, D'Harans... I must have been watching a wrong show.

Now, while R/K is canon, and probably one of the best TV ships I've seen done on screen, how can people not see the evolving bond and friendship between Cara and Kahlan? I don't ship them the way you do, but I can see why you do that. It's definitely not unfoinded. kahlan helped Cara grow so much, and so did Zedd and Richard, each in a different way and I loved that.

*hugs*

Gotta admit, I don't 'ship Cara/Kahlan... but I hate ship bashing, or just bashing in general... hell, I just dislike mean people...

Seriously, some people take it all way too far.

*hugs*

It's why I basically abandoned the Glee fandom, there was seriously bad juju goin' on there.

Again, *hugs*

I'm sorry that you had a bad experience at LotS.org

I liked Cara from the very start and I think it's one of the reasons why Season 2 of LOTS was awesome.
Don't mind what they say ... enjoy your favourite character and ship and send the bashers to hell ;)

Why do I have the feeling you could go on and on about this very subject? I have a feeling you are sadly very familiar with the concept. Am I right? Wasn't there (isn't maybe still) a lot of this also in FK-fandom.

They of course hate that there was so much Cara in season 2 and not enough of their precious couple... I find that so "In your face"... and it makes me all happy. :D

I miss it too - more than I realized really. Because there are some deleted scenes posted on youtube and they were so nice to watch - I mean, there was Cara and she was so adorkable yet again. I love Cara very much and Tab did such an awesome job.

Exactly that... we must have downloaded some different show maybe. =P

Now, while R/K is canon, and probably one of the best TV ships I've seen done on screen,...</>

Indeed. It has its silly lovey-dovey moments that make me role my eyes much in the same fashion as Cara's (but she does it way better - I need practice still). But the LotS PTB know how to do it well.

I know it's canon but in fanon I'm in charge - also something the R/K-fanatics don't seem to understand so very well. =S

...how can people not see the evolving bond and friendship between Cara and Kahlan?

I have no clue really... it's not that hard to see though. Sometimes it's even front and center, like when Richard is not with them. Sometimes it's more subtle and other times it's just smack in your face.

Oh well ... if they had the decency to be respectful I would accept their opinions and agree to disagree but the lack of respect and understanding of my (and others) opinion on the matter angers me beyond belief.

While my primary target as far as shipping goes is most definitely the one thing that will never happen - C/K - I do have a liking towards R/K. I have to say that is one of the canon ships in TV-land that didn't bother me all that much, and when they had some of their lovey-dovey moments I'd roll my eyes (like Cara but not as good).

It annoys me of course when people come in and announce I must be totally stupid and insane to be shipping Cara and Kahlan cause seriously there's nothing going on between these two. They're barely even friends. Or that Cara is a main character - no, it's all about Richard and Kahlan.

The fanatics - the ones that take it too far - scare me.

I'm sorry that you had a bad experience at LotS.org

Sadly not the first time - my warning lights should have worked better then to avoid the now.

Ah, that explains a lot.

I use CSS as a image-source (plenty of useful screencaps) but there's no way I'm even setting a foot in that place for anything else. Their name says enough. =P

That they do... they always come in pairs. One to say it, and another to agree.

And if one is really unlucky there are more coming in to repeat it slowly. =S

I just don't get that kind of people--to me it's almost always the supposedly "secondary" characters that make a series sing. And if you can't accept differing opions on ships, you just have no right to be in fandom.

Do read the books, though, you really should. (Full disclosure: I could never get into the show because there are story points where I felt the adaptation just completely missed the point, and that kept me from enjoying the show on its own merits. Read the first book and commisserate with me over what happened to the Denna story.)

Kara takes a while longer to join up with Richard and Kahlan in the books than in the show, but on the plus side, she's only one of a group of Mord-Sith that shows up, and they are all absolutely the best thing about the whole series. Berdine and Raina rock as much as Cara does.

Plus, if it's Kahlan and Cara bonding you want to see, there's stuff in the books you really won't want to miss. For instance, at the start of book four. ;-)

Here's a thought that might apply to your LotS fandom:
A friend of mine used to joke that we each got our own special "feed" of FK, because the incompatible interpretations seemed as if we were all watching different cuts. :-)

>"Am I right?"

We've had a lot of years in FK, so I've gotten to see trends come and go. Yes, that's one.

The summer after cancellation, fourteen years ago, had a lot of bitterness, both in general and specifically targeted at other people's favorite characters. (Do you know how the series ends? Everyone dies.) FK fandom tore itself apart in the two years after cancellation, and while we've come a long way, we've never entirely healed. Is that perhaps what's going on in your LotS fandom lately?

I personally like it best when we all play together, in a full grand mix of different opinions... but of course I also sometimes long for the comfort of people who agree with me! Just like everyone else. :-)

By far, the dominant 'ships in FK are the N&Ners (Nick/Natalie) and the Unnamed Faction (Nick/Lacroix). We have many others -- and we've named them all! -- but those two are overwhelmingly popular. And I don't happen to adhere to either.

However, if we must have dominant 'ships at all, I think that we're blessed in FK to have competition. I have a theory that the long-term, post-cancellation survival of a fandom depends in part on not reducing it to a single dominant 'ship. I think that for stories and discussion still to be generated years later, a fandom must make room for competing interpretations -- gen as well as multiple 'ships -- because there must be room for questions that need answers. If a fandom reduced itself to a single 'ship, it would reduce to a single question, thus to a single answer, and then *poof!* the fans might as well pack up and go home, because that would be the real end of the story.

So you may be doing your fandom a service simply by disagreeing with the dominant interpretation, even though they don't know and won't thank you.

Well, might start reading sooner rather than later - read TG and Stieg Larsson at the same time. That way I can join the reading group at my legendland community.

LotS.org used to be a great place, before the show was canceled. Some of the idiots were there back then too, of course, but they weren't nearly as vocal/annoying as they are now. And I think CSS had some more-or-less open minded people too. But since late April things really turned around... I miss the good old times when people could talk about everything, and if a few idiots raised their voices, they were silenced quickly. :(

I think a lot of people are also very frustrated about the current situation... so I could maybe forgive them but it doesn't give them the right to go and tell people to shut up, or to downplay a character because they themselves don't think it should be in anyone's spotlight.

But I make good use of the ignore-feature so that it can cool off. It's three strikes you're out that I use. Some people are on strike one at the moment. :p

But I still visit, and still enjoy some of the threads so that's good. And I'm trying to not let anyone chase me away.

people are really stupid when it comes to ships.

I love Cara / Kahlan. In book their relationship is even better then in show.

As one said you really need to read 4th book. My favorite book just because of Cara and Kahlan.

I so miss the show. Mostly cause I don't see Cara anymore :D She gave something new to the show.

I still have to start the first book - which has dropped a few places on the list. So, will eventually get to book four... eventually.

I absolutely adore Cara ... I was wondering all through season 1 when the other awesome lady would show up from the .gif I had seen on my flist. If someone had told me she wouldn't show up until the end, I'd probably would have skipped the whole of season 1 and gone straight into season 2. :p

I'm going to do a rewatch - but first want to get through Farscape as soon as those DVD's arrive. That has been a while.
