Disclaimer: Stargate Atlantis and its characters aren’t mine and will never be mine. But the characters that Kate, my muse, came up with are mine and cannot be used without my expressed permission.
Author’s notes: Yes, my muse is on a rampage or so it seems, and as long as she’s happy, I’m happy to write whatever she thinks of. Thank you to
triciabyrne1978 for the beta. Title has been inspired by Pajus, who suggested “Open your eyes to see your friend” and I extrapolated my title from that. I imagine getting better from a sickness that causes you to forget everything, is like waking up from a bad dream.

The door to the mess hall opened and Teyla walked in. She had just distributed the cure through the ventilation system, hoping it would work and make everybody better. It would spread through the entire city, making sure that everybody who was left in the hallways got a good whiff too. She looked around, seeing many familiar faces though only one was now important. Only one. She started to go through all the people and finally found the one person she was looking for, huddling in a corner, sick and clutching a teddy bear. Teyla briefly wondered where she had found it, and who it really belonged to.
“Kate...” She didn’t respond, though Teyla hadn’t expected her to. All she did was shift uneasy, being too frightened, hiding away even further in the corner. Teyla sat down beside the woman. “It’s okay.” She brushed some strands of hair, sticking to Kate’s forehead, aside and pulled her in a hug. She struggled a little against Teyla’s hold but due to being so sick she was too tired to keep it up. “It’s okay. You are safe now.”
The sickest had slept pretty much through the entire day. The city had never been so quiet before as it was now. Very few people were at their stations, all too busy to get back on their feet. Teyla had stopped by the Colonel before sitting with Kate, asleep but looking a lot better nonetheless. The teddy bear was sitting on top of the nearby nightstand. She carefully closed her hand around Kate’s, stroking it with her thumb.
“Hey...” Teyla turned at the sound of Keller’s soft voice. “Has she woken up yet?”
“No.” She shook her head. “Not yet.”
“Any idea whose teddy bear she stole?” The young doctor smiled, glancing to the fuzzy little bear staring back at them.
“No idea.” Teyla smiled briefly as she turned back to watching Kate, who looked about ready to wake up as there was a flutter of eyelids. “Kate...” She rose up from her chair.
“Kate...” Jennifer rounded the bed to the other side.
Kate opened her eyes halfway, looking thoroughly confused. She glanced at Jennifer first and then at Teyla, a small smile breaking out on her lips. “Teyla...” She whispered, closing her eyes as she slipped off again.
“She will be fine.” Keller smiled. “We will keep her here for the night.”
“Thank you.” Teyla said, as she sat back down.
“No, thank you.” Jennifer dropped a hand on Teyla’s shoulder. “It was you who saved the day after all.”
