Title: What's In a Name?
Author: [personal profile] falcon_horus
Rating: PG
Pairing: Kate Heightmeyer/John Sheppard
Summary: How hard can it be to choose the right name?
Author's notes: This may sound weird but I don't think I ever posted this one. I'm not sure, so if I did I can't remember I did. But anyway, I sort of wrote a sequel, which can also be seen as stand-alone, and I thought maybe now was a good time to post both (unless I posted the prequel somewhere already). I don't think it was ever beta'd so all mistakes, funny grammar, funky spelling - it's all me.

John looked down at the bundle of joy in his arms, smiling. “Ronon said…”

“No!”

“Meredith?”

“No!”

“Teyla?”

“Maybe.”

“Elizabeth?”

“Maybe.”

“Éowyn?”

“What?”

“You know Éowyn from Lord of the Rings.” John elaborated, quite pleased his wife wasn’t shooting his suggestion down once again.

“You want to name our daughter after a character from a book?” John shrugged. “I don’t think so.”

“Okay, maybe not such a great idea.” Kate rolled her eyes in response.

“How does Laura sound?” She said after a moment of silence.

“You want to name her after Laura Cadman?” He looked genuinely surprised, certainly after she seemed reluctant to consider naming their child after Teyla or Elizabeth.

“No, I just like the sound of Laura... Maybe Lara to make it easier to pronounce.” She glanced up at him.

“After Lara Croft, you mean.” There was another roll of the eyes. “I’m just saying.” He would have thrown his hands up in the air if he hadn’t been holding their, as of yet unnamed, daughter.

“We could always name her after me if we can’t agree on a suitable name.” Kate smiled innocently. “It’s not like there isn’t already a Katherine Sheppard running around here anyway.” Now it was John’s turn to roll his eyes.

“Final offer...”

“We’re not bidding here.” Kate tilted her head a little, sending a mock glare his direction.

“Sarah. Sarah Laura Sheppard.” John smiled, feeling like he had hit the nail on the head. She nodded a little, reluctant to admit he had found a name she liked as well.

“Sarah. Laura. Sheppard.” Kate said slowly, letting each part of their daughter’s name roll of her tongue.

“Sold!” John replied before Kate could change her mind, again. “And it only took us nine months and a few hours to name this beautiful little lady.”

“And she looks just like me.” Kate said sweetly. “Don’t you think so too?” John dropped his head in defeat, sighing heavily. When he looked up again, there was a playful grin toying around his lips.

“That makes me the luckiest man alive with two such beautiful ladies to keep me company.” He bent over and kissed Kate, who swatted his arm playfully. “Love you too.” She grinned and he grinned right back.

Title: Waiting For You
Author: [personal profile] falcon_horus
Rating: PG
Pairing: Kate Heightmeyer/John Sheppard
Summary: John is waiting for his wife to return home to Atlantis.
Author's notes: This is the sequel of sorts to the above ficlet, but it can be read as a standalone quite easily. This was written for [profile] merlins_sister's birthday which was about a month and a half ago, wich means it's a very belated birthday gift. It's a thank you for showing this particular pairing to me and me realizing it looked quite cute. I probably would never have considered it or maybe I would but not right at the beginning. [livejournal.com profile] tanaquisga, another J/K-lover and equally to blame for me loving this pairing so much, made sure, with the help of her virtual red marker, that all the funky spelling, grammar and sentences were eliminated from the fic. And boy was it necessary... =P

The day was coming to an end and he’d still heard no word from her. Another day gone by without news. John stretched in his chair, ignoring the glare that Chuck gave him when he adjusted the position of his feet, propped up on the edge of the console. If Elizabeth were here, she’d have given him a far worse look than the Canadian could muster; and maybe, in that case, he would have considered taking his feet down. Just maybe. Although… if he wanted to keep his privileges as the military commander, he guessed he wouldn’t think twice about keeping her happy.

He missed her. Why did the IOA do the bi-yearly evaluations at the SGC instead of Atlantis anyway? Because he figured, if the results were negative, they could immediately revoke their right to return. The thought briefly sent a shiver down his back. No, they wouldn’t revoke her right to come back to him, and their little girl. Would they?

He turned to look at their daughter, who was currently yanking at Rodney’s trousers, trying to get his attention. Her raven black hair was neatly held back in a little ponytail, while her big green eyes were glaring up at Rodney, who was doing his very best to ignore the toddler pulling his pants down inch by inch. Eventually, he caved, turning to the girl and picking her up from the floor, although his whole manner suggested it was only reluctantly. John grinned in satisfaction as his daughter laid her head down on his best friend’s shoulder, sticking her thumb in her mouth, clearly with the intention of going to sleep there. He suppressed a chuckle as he saw Rodney had also realized what the little lady’s intentions were, but one look from Katie coming up the stairs and Rodney promptly forced a smile on his face, patting his goddaughter on the back.

John shifted again, trying to ease the kinks out of his back. As he did so, the chevrons on the gate started lighting up. On his feet and turning to Chuck a little too fast, he felt his back pop into place. He was positively sure he was going to feel that in the morning.

“Incoming wormhole.” Chuck announced to the room, looking at his screen for an ID that would let them know who was knocking on their front door. “It’s the SGC, sir.” He turned to John.

“Finally.” John practically ran down the stairs, anxious to see his wife again.

They didn’t have to wait long for their missing expedition members. Elizabeth stepped through first, holding several bags that looked to John like shopping bags. Teyla followed close on her heels, still giggling over something that had clearly happened on the other side. She too was carrying several bags. John was pleased to see them back. But when Kate arrived through the gate, his face lit up with a bright smile. She fumbled to keep the two bags she was carrying from slipping from her grip and John quickly jumped forward, relieving her of her load.

“Thank you.” She smiled up at him.

“Welcome home.” He bent forward a little and met her halfway in a kiss. He was sparing in showing his affection in public, but on occasions like these he would kick his reservations to the side and follow her lead. After all, they had been separated for a little over two weeks; which as far as John was concerned, that wasn’t going to happen again anytime soon.

“It’s good to be home.” Kate smiled at him. She glanced around a little and then turned back to him. “Where’s Sarah?”

John quirked his lips up, turned and pointed at Rodney, who was making his way down the stairs. “Right there.”

Kate walked up to Rodney, who seemed surprisingly reluctant, that the little girl was going back into her mother’s arms.

“Hey sweetie.” Kate smiled as Sarah snuggled against her shoulder. “Thank you,” She murmured to Rodney as she turned away. She looked across at John. “I think we should tug this little one in.” John nodded, taking Kate’s remaining bag from Teyla, who had been holding onto it. “And then you and I can get reacquainted again.” Kate winked, enjoying the look that crossed her husband’s face at that remark. She bestowed a general ‘Good night!’ to the gate room as they left, and Elizabeth and Teyla answered in unison.

They were too far out of earshot to hear Elizabeth, turning to Teyla and smiling, remark ‘It’s good to be home, isn’t it?’, or Teyla’s wholehearted agreement.
